By: Paige Read around Michigan is a great event that encourages children to read more. “I lay great books down, and this gives them the time to read them,” says Tinholt. Read around Michigan takes 20 hours if you were to finish, and you have the whole month of March to do so. You go from Detroit to EGR, reading! We asked Katherine what she thought of it. “I'd get a Jersey Junction coupon or Fun Dip, which I doubt there'll be any left,” says Katherine, first one to finish (March 3). You might say, What is she talking about? Well, she is talking about the prizes you get when your name is pulled on the drawings on Friday. Mrs. Tinholt picks out five names and those five people get to pick a prize out of the prize bin. The names are written on tickets. Each city you pass, you get a ticket. You write your name on it. Well, that's it for now! See you at the Read Around Michigan Celebration: The I-MAX movie, The Mystery of the Great Lakes! Who needs facebook who needs twitter cause we got ning!
I have recently interviewed one of my good friends Olivia about our ning network. Olivia says that her favorite part of ning is making her page because she can design it any way she wants. Olivia thinks ning is a fun way to communicate with friends on chat. She uses ning about three times a week. In fact she loves It so much that she created her own ning network. “I love putting photos and videos on. I think It is a good way to get to know people better.” Stated Olivia. “I think everyone will love ning just like my friends and I do!” She said in excitement. So who needs facebook who needs twitter cause we got ning.
By: Livi Standford testing By Charlie
For the elementry to highschool the students do a test called Standford. We do Standford testing to see the skills that the students have and what they are capible of doing. Each year the Standford gets harder every year and that is because that the children in school get older. Standford is sopose to be a challenge for the students as they get older.
What is your favorite part of Standford testing? “I like to see my students working hard and doing there best” says Mrs.Tinholt a 4th grade teacher at Wealthy Elementry. Mrs. Tinholt also says that she does not mind it. “I like to get the information when it is all done.” The Standford test takes about 2 weeks. It would take me about the same amount of time if I were to take it says Mrs. Tinholt. If you are in elementry, middle, or highschool you would probible take the Standford test too. How do you feel Techy Tinholt!

Some of my classmates favorite websites have been facebook (Cam), a games (Daniel), ning (Grace, Livi, and mine). If you're wondering what the heck is ning, that's a different story. Back to the subject, we are learning more by the day. We have just got a letter saying that we can take them home. They are so

Starlight Science
By Olivia
In October the fifth grade students went on a trip to science camp on Mystic Lake. The fifth graders had to bring with them a flashlight, batteries, a pillow, a sleeping bag, tennis shoes, and extra clothes. They were out of school for three days. One of the fifth graders (Mackenzie) said that her favorite part about the camp was the fun activities! Some of these included rock climbing, canoing, playing in the Gaga pit, and all the working together games. Mackenzie and the other fifth graders learned a lot about different things in nature. Even though the camp is only three days long, the fifth graders still had a great time, and wished it was longer!
Fun on Family fun NightBy: Eric
The exciting family fun night is almost here. Family fun night is May 5, 2010 and it starts at 5:00 and it ends at 8:30 pm. You have 3 and a half hours of fun. This year family fun night is going to be very different with a new parent in charge, also this year instead of karaoke there will be many new games, but the berry- go- round will probably not be at family fun night this year. Last year they had the dunk dank and the bounce thing. Hopefully they will have them this year. One of my favorite games is the cake walk. I love cake but I never win, hopefully I will win this year.
Social Studies is Searching States By Anneke
In the beginning of February 2010, the 4th grade was starting a social studies project. Each person got to choose a state. The total project was a five page acordeon book including a three paragragh writing, a "10 facts" page, a timeline with ten main events, a map and a venn diagram comparing Michigan to their state. “We did this to improve on our researching skills, writing skills and social studies skills.” said Mrs. Tinholt. “Not to many people thought of it as a fun project but some did.”
It took around 3 weeks for everyone to finish. In my opinion it was fun.

Flea Market
by: Cam Cox
On December 16, the fourth and fifth graders had a flea market. Last year the fourth and fifth graders didn't get to do it. All the other times we did the flea market with fake money, but this year we used real money! It was more realistic and a big risk. The use of the flea market was to learn about economics. The most common thing sold were baked goods/food items. The flea market was a whole afternoon and around 2 hours long. All the fourth and fifth grade teachers and students were involved, including other students. The reason why we used real money this year was for a more real experience.

Making Our Way to Marvelous Mackinac Island
By Alaina
On June 1-2, 2010 the whole Wealthy Elementary fourth grade and a few lucky parents will be traveling to Mackinac Island. The reason we travel to Mackinac Island is so the fourth graders will get to experience a historic tour of a special part of Michigan. Ten years ago, Mrs. Follett came up with the wonderful idea of a fourth grade Mackinac Island trip at a conference with Mrs. Tinholt and Mrs. Anderson. Wealthy fourth graders have been going on this annual journey ever since.
According to Mrs.Tinholt, the highlights of the trip every year include the bike tour, the fudge shops, the fort tours and the night hike. Since there are no cars allowed on the island, we will be exploring Mackinac and the strength of our muscles on a bike tour. When we tire from the bike ride, there are plenty of fudge shops to refuel. Joann's Fudge Shoppe supposedly has the best fudge on the island. We'll see! The tours of Fort Mackinac and Fort Michillimackinac will bring our knowledge of Michigan history alive. We will be able to tour the actual buildings where soldiers and their families lived. Last but not least, no one ever forgets the famous night hike. This is when we'll scare each other with our original Michigan Legends. We will be so busy with fun and exciting things to do that we won't miss home for a minute!
What to Bring
The average high at Mackinac Island in May/June is 74 degrees and the average low is 56 degrees. It is smart to bring comfortable clothes that you can layer so you won't get too hot in the day or too cool at night. You also do not want to forget your camera because you'll want to make sure you remember every minute of marvelous Mackinac!
A New Kind of Classroom... By: Jake
As we know, most classrooms are indoors and dull. Not this one! This classroom is, you probably guessed, outdoors. But why such a classroom? “I did it to bring beautiful Michigan flowers and trees to Wealthy Elementary School for kids to enjoy.” states Kathleen Davis, founder and installation manager.
The “greenroom” as it's called, is dedicated to special people at Wealthy Elementary. Susan Nolan, an old staff member who, sadly, died in a car-crash a couple years back. Also, Mr. Mark Thompkins, the previous and well known principal. Theres also a “path to life” for 5 retirees.
Everything in the classroom is native to Michigan. There are 42 different kinds of plants and trees (including our state tree, the White Pine and state flower, the Crabapple Blossom). This also includes Michigan rockery and wildlife. Ms. Kathleen was not alone when creating this work of art. Therefor she would like to acknowledge the following people. Mrs. Tinholt, Mrs. Barger Elliot, Mrs. Sunderhaft, Andy, The Naturalists Group, Matt, Liam, Jaco, the Devries family, and 300 hours of child participation in the last 2 years.
Stack em'up
by Phoebe
They stack them up they stack them down they are stackers. There is a fun thing to do and this is what it is. First there is things about stacking. Then it will tell you about the game. The stacking cups are different from the ones you drink out of. They are still special. All of the stacking cups are the same. Also there is a mat that times you, you put your hands on the mat and the timer starts then you stack your cups and put your hand on it again and the timer stops. Then it tells you how long it took. The fastest someone has stacked was 363 and it took them 4.6 seconds. It became a sport in the 1980s. They started stacking club at Wealthy because it is fun and its good practice for both hands. I like stacking club don't you?

Do you think recess is fun? Well did you know that lunch recess starts at 11:27 and is 45 minutes long. Also the same people that made the play ground made the school made the play ground. There are 2 play grounds only to keep the little kids away from big kids. Did you know that the whole play ground including both fields are all together 4 acres long!? There are three recess just because some times kids and teachers need a small break. You can bring food outside but only if you sit down. So those are the recess rules.
