One Fine Time A poem created by Brett Flikkema, Age 7 One fine time, A man made up a rhyme, And at the same time, He had to pay a fine, For doing a crime, For hitting someone with a chime, The fine was fine, It was only a dime, But he also had to eat a lime, and at the same time, he also had to try to climb, The fine man did not think the fine time was very fine, after the fine fine, and having to eat a lime, And at the same time having to try to climb.
Chapter one of: The Year 2902 Type here if you want the next chapter! Full Moon The full moon’s light reflected off the thin, wet streets of what used to be Germany. My breath shone in the freezing night air as I ran down the street, my feet splashing and echoing into my ears. I remember every detail of day -1. It was so silent. It felt as though the whole of Germany was holding their breath, getting ready to strike at their traitor. Me. I turned a sharp left and gasped. The officials were standing there, their cage guns trained on me. I turned full around and sprinted as hard as I could, moving to right and hitting a brick wall that slowed me down a bit as a rope cage flew past me and entwined itself around an MRIetrute fence. I faked another turn to the left and dove to the right. It didn’t fool the officials though. I knew I was a goner with the officials on my tail, and all of Germany on their side. I rolled a few feet, avoiding another cage of ropes, and then jumped over a fence, and into an abandoned churchyard, where there were small houses all around. They were just tall enough for me to duck under the roofs and I could lose the officials. I seized my chance and dived into a large doghouse. I immediately regretted that. I felt lightheaded as I tried not to move as I looked down at the floor which was crawling with every bug you could imagine. From roaches, to centipedes, to earwigs, to worms, there were millipedes and mosquitoes, they enchanted me and I was hypnotized. I wanted to get out of here! My artificial heart almost stopped. I looked away from the bugs and saw the brown snout of an official right outside my house sticking out of their cloak. It started to sniff the air, and something on it's face made a whizzing sound. I inhaled quickly and it’s wormy, furry, face turned to me. There were wriggling tentacles that hung from around where it’s mouth should be. In its stead, there was a small, round gadget with little green flashing lights on it. It stuck out it’s knarly hand with inch long fingernails and a flashing bracelet and green rings built into it’s fingers. It grabbed me by my shoulder in an unnatural strength. It hoisted me out of the dog house and I swore that a millipede had snuck up my pants. It easily stepped over the fence that guarded the church with it’s long goat-like legs that had purple bands on the ankles. We came to a hover car and he threw me on top and ropes shot out. They bound me so hard that I was nearly suffocated. If the officials could, I could swear I detected a smile on the round gadget as it gagged my mouth. “Get comfortable” it said in it’s robotic growling voice. End of chapter one
Chapter two: The Waiting Room It was the closest anyone- or anything for that matter- could ever have come to suffocating. I know that I will be long dead before you read this- if anyone ever can. I live in the year 2902. The people here whereGermanyused to be are doing what they call: “A science project for the good of humans.” Now many people believed them. Even I did. At first. People were going to the laboratory on 5487 mile road. People were going as fast as they possibly could. Everyone wanted to see what this new thing was. My parents went too. Although there was few people who didn’t quite trust the government on what they said. My parents were part of those few people. I used to not understand what they didn’t trust, but it’s been a whole year since they left. I understand now. I don’t understand everything, but I have the basic idea. They were making people into robotic slaves for the government. The last words of my parents as free people were: “Stay here.” “We’ll most likely come back and tell you what’s happening. If something bad happens to us, don’t go to the lab.” I swore to them that I wouldn’t. My mother was very tall. She had piercing white eyes that you just couldn’t lie to. My father was also tall. He was very thin also. He wore blue glasses. I think he was smart. They were gone for about 4 days. I hadn’t thought about how much time it would take them. I cried in that time. When they came back, these were their exact words: “It’s okay son, the treatments made us a lot better” They brought me to the lab on 5487 mile road, and brought me to the room where they would change me. First, they tried to put me asleep. I protested and said that I could handle whatever pain they had for me. The surgeon smiled mischievously and shook his head. “I’ll at least try.” I said. He shook his head as he walked to a small drawer after he put away the small bottle of sleeping gas. I bit my lip as I saw the tool he came out with. It was shiny; it had a sort of circular spinning blade on the end between two sharp things that looked as though they would hold back skin, or worse- bone. He smiled again and walked closer to me. As he took the machine and started to put it against my chest as if measuring something, my lungs were getting tighter. I didn’t want him to do anything to my chest! But right then he walked to another drawer and pulled out a small, misshapen thing with small green lights and little whirring motors on it. What was that for? I started to shake in my straight up chair. He put the small thing in the pocket of the chair and then he pulled out a machine from the back, and inserted the thing that would cut me. “You’ll never feel pain again.” He had told me. And he switched on the machine. It was pain beyond imaginable. I was sure everyone on 5487 mile road could hear me scream. First the machine fixed itself between my ribs. Then everything was gone. I only saw spurts of blood and commotion. I heard a crack as my ribs broke. And then the doctor. “Nighty-Night” he said. When I woke up first, I saw the blood spurted floor and the hole in my shirt and blacked out again. When I really woke up, they weren’t doing anything to me. “You’ve been screaming in your sleep” the doctor informed me matter-of-factly. “I couldn’t bear to be in the same room it was so loud” “I’m going to get the next doctor to do some more.” He said. “More?!” I asked. “How long have I been out?’’ I asked because I hadn’t thought about it. “22 hours” the doctor said casually. “And were only half done?” I asked. “Oh no! We’re not close to halfway yet he smiled. You only have your artificial heart!” That was when I figured it out. My parents had been sent to tell me to come by the government. “Stay here!” Said the doctor I seized my chance right after he shut the door behind him. I felt dizzy after I stood up. I walked over to the door and was turning the handle before I decided otherwise. I went over to a pipe that lead out of the building. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to get out there, I decided that they would find me too fast if I went through the door. I climbed up the pipe with all of my remaining strength. The lab was about 50 feet high and it took a little while for me to get up to the top. Before I reached it I heard yells down below and knew that they had discovered my absence. I smiled. I climbed onto a different pole and kept hopping onto the water pipes leading out of the building and then I saw it. A small hatch in the ceiling. I tugged on it as hard as I could. It didn’t budge. And then something struck me. People wouldn’t climb on these pipes! This hatch must open to the outside! I still wondered why this hatch was here. I pushed with all the might in my free hand and it still didn’t move. Of course! There was a small latch that I had overlooked. I had to pull down before I could open the hatch. I pulled down the latch and easily opened the hatch with one hand. I climbed out of it and onto the roof. Then I had another problem. I needed to get to the ground. I kicked the hatch shut and found that it opened without a latch from out here. I ended up climbing down from window to window. A few times I slipped, but luckily all the windows were blocked. I got to the bottom and started running. That’s how I got my artificial heart also. It was about a 20 minute drive to wherever we were headed. The officials swerved a lot just to try and annoy me. When we stopped, I couldn’t think of a place I wanted to go less. It was the laboratory on 5487 mile road. The official got out of the hover car and snapped it’s fingers. The ropes binding me quickly disappeared. They grabbed me by the shoulder in that un-human like grip as they began to take out my gag. “Sir” said a hollow, blank, robotic voice. The official whipped around and loosened it’s grip for just one moment… I sprinted out of it’s grip and concentrated on running harder than I ever had before. Things seemed to go in slow motion as I ran as hard as I could. I knew even then that I was no match for an official. He easily jogged up to me and grabbed me by the neck just as I tried to dive around a bend. It held me an inch off the ground as it brought me back to the lab. “No!” It scolded me as if it was talking to a naughty dog. It threw me through the scanner door and followed behind me. Instead of leading me up the stairs as I had done last time, it pushed me behind the front desk, with no complaint from the hollow eyed lady that sat there, and into a room that I had never seen. “Wait here” It told me. It slammed the door without looking back, locking me into the waiting room.

One fine time,
A man made up a rhyme,
And at the same time,
He had to pay a fine,
For doing a crime,

The fine was fine,
It was only a dime,
But he also had to eat a lime,
and at the same time,
he also had to try to climb,
The fine man did not think the fine time was very fine,
after the fine fine,

And at the same time having to try to climb.

Chapter two:
The Waiting Room
It was the closest anyone- or anything for that matter- could ever have come to suffocating.
I know that I will be long dead before you read this- if anyone ever can.
